Filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller “Dhurandhar”, starring Ranveer Singh, has become a global streaming sensation. According to Netflix’s Tudum weekly chart for January 26–February 1, the film recorded 7.6 million views, topping the global list for non-English films.

In Pakistan, “Dhurandhar” also secured the No. 1 position on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies list, a remarkable feat given that Indian films usually do not get theatrical releases there. The story, set in Lyari town, Karachi, revolves around covert intelligence operations and historical terror events, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the 2001 Parliament attack.

The film’s ensemble cast includes Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sara Arjun. It has also performed strongly in other South Asian countries, such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, while trending in Gulf nations like the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman, despite restrictions in some regions due to its anti-Pakistan narrative.

Following the blockbuster box-office run of over ₹1,300 crore, “Dhurandhar” began streaming on Netflix on January 30. Its sequel, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge”, is set for a theatrical release on March 19 in multiple languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. The next installment will explore the backstory and evolution of Ranveer Singh’s spy-turned-gangster character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza Ali Mazari.

Produced by Aditya Dhar and his brother Lokesh Dhar under B62 Studios, alongside Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios, “Dhurandhar” combines espionage, action, and geopolitical intrigue. Its global success on Netflix highlights the growing reach of Indian cinema on international streaming platforms, even in regions with historical tensions.

In Pakistan, the Top 10 list is dominated by Indian films, including titles like “Tere Ishq Mein”, “Haq”, “De De Pyaar De 2”, “Mardaani 2”, “Mardaani”, and “Jolly LLB 3”. Analysts suggest that the film’s strong storytelling, high production values, and Ranveer Singh’s compelling performance contributed to its widespread appeal.

The sequel promises to delve deeper into the protagonist’s journey, further exploring the blend of personal motives, espionage, and action that captivated audiences globally.
