A few days ago, acclaimed actor-director Lal stirred up controversy with his remarks about Malayalam film industry legend Jagathy Sreekumar during a media interview.

In the interview given to Saina Plus, Lal commented on "the famed on-the-spot improvisations by Jagathy while shooting scenes," deeming it "not such a healthy practice" — a statement that disappointed many of Jagathy’s fans and industry colleagues.

In a way, the interview did ruffle a few feathers.

However, what is now increasingly gaining attention is actor Prithviraj’s confession in an interview with The Cue Studio almost a year ago.

Speaking alongside Nikhila Vimal, Prithviraj discussed how he approaches humour in his films. "For me, it's about the organic humour in the script and the director's conviction. But on the contrary, we have legends like Jagathy Sreekumar, whom I’ve seen many times while working together, improvising on the spot upon request," the young actor-director said.

At the same time, Prithviraj also stated, "Actors are, and ultimately should be, limited by their directors."

Netizens can’t help but compare the statements made by both Lal and Prithviraj about Jagathy Sreekumar. While Lal appears critical of Jagathy’s improvisational style, Prithviraj seems to be rather in awe of the legendary artist. Naturally, the internet has been drawing comparisons.

This is now being seen as a near-perfect example of diverse creative outlooks within the film industry.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj is set to appear in a Bollywood film alongside Kajal and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Jagathy, who has been on a long path to recovery following a near-fatal accident years ago, is making a strong comeback as ‘Professor Ambili’ in Arun Chandu’s sci-fi film Vala, which also features Madhav Suresh, Basil Joseph, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Anarkali Marikar, Aju Varghese, and several other talented artists.
