Kochi: Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has been included in the academic syllabus at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, as part of the four-year BA honours history programme. The celebrated actor will be featured in the elective course “History of Malayalam Cinema”, which second-year students will begin studying this academic year.

Interestingly, Mammootty pursued his undergraduate studies at Maharaja’s College before going on to earn an LL.B. degree from Government Law College, Ernakulam.

With a career spanning over five decades, Mammootty has acted in more than 400 films, mainly in lead roles. He has received numerous accolades, including three National Film Awards, eleven Kerala State Film Awards, and fifteen Filmfare Awards South. In recognition of his contribution to cinema, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 and the Kerala Prabha Award in 2022.

Alongside Mammootty, the life and achievements of Dakshayani Velayudhan, the first Malayali woman from a Scheduled Caste to earn a bachelor’s degree and a member of India’s Constituent Assembly, have also been added to the syllabus. Dakshayani, an alumnus of Maharaja’s College, is featured in the core curriculum to highlight her role in India's social and political history.
