Chennai: Veteran Tamil actor Vadivelu has sparked a fresh debate within the Tamil film industry with his fiery speech at the 69th General Committee meeting of the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes' Association). His comments, sharply criticising the influence of YouTubers and alleged unethical behaviour among actors, have drawn widespread attention.

Vadivelu claimed that certain actors were paying YouTubers to deliberately post negative reviews of films featuring their rivals, in an attempt to sabotage their success. He lamented that the Nadigar Sangam has remained silent on the issue and even alleged that some members within the organisation may be complicit.

“Some actors, in a bid to make their films succeed, are using YouTubers to target rival actors’ films with negative reviews,” Vadivelu said. “They speak ill of our fellow artistes and exaggerate minor issues. Even members of the Producers' Council are reportedly engaging people to speak against certain films.”

Vadivelu went on to state that a group of individuals were working collectively to destroy films and that the Nadigar Sangam must take a stand. “The purpose of Nadigar Sangam is to protect actors, not to allow their destruction. Yet no one here is condemning such behaviour,” he added.

The meeting, attended by several key figures from the Tamil film industry, including the administrative heads of Nadigar Sangam, also paid tribute to artistes who have passed away in recent months.

Vadivelu’s speech has triggered discussions across media circles, especially as YouTube film reviewers play an increasingly influential role in shaping public opinion. His remarks have also cast a spotlight on internal rivalries and ethical concerns within the film fraternity.

Meanwhile, key members of the Nadigar Sangam, including prominent actors Vishal and Nassar, have taken heed of Vadivelu’s comments and acknowledged the criticisms, vowing to act on them within the limits of the organisation’s capacity.
