European Artist Roman Kyn, known for his eclectic blend of indie rock, 80s music and modern electronic sounds, delivered a smashing debut performance in Kerala at Kappa CULTR 2025.
Shortly after performing at one of the hottest music festivals in the country, Kyn said: "It's my first time in Kerala, and honestly, I couldn't hope for something better. The energy here (in India) is incredible, and people really let go when they’re at parties. There's this amazing freedom in the way they engage with the music, which is refreshing. Unlike Europe, where people sometimes observe each other, here in India, they lose themselves in the sounds."
Kyn, who has previously performed in Goa, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, described Kerala’s vibe as 'super chill' and praised the natural beauty of the state, particularly its cuisine. "I am a very big fan of Indian cuisine. The prawns I had yesterday were amazing, grilled with spices -- just perfect," he said.
Kyn’s music is a blend of various influences, from the melancholic tones, and indie pop to the electronic melodies of techno. "When I was younger, I was inspired by the early days of 'Inner Visions' and the melodic techno scene," he said, adding, "Now, I try to mix that with more modern electronic influences, creating a unique sound that reflects my journey as an artist."
Reflecting on the growing EDM scene in India, Kyn expressed excitement about being part of a movement. "EDM in India is still in its beginning stages, but it’s definitely taking off," he said. "It's exciting to be part of something that's growing and evolving."
Talking about his own musical evolution, Kyn shared how his journey began more than a decade ago when he started playing guitar and producing music using computers. "At first, I was a singer-songwriter, but eventually, I transitioned into production and electronic music," he recalled, adding, "It’s been a constant evolution, and now, after three years with this project, I’m starting to really know what I want to do."
As a versatile musician, Kyn plays several instruments, including bass, piano, drums, guitar, and synthesizers. His performance at Kappa CULTR was marked by a blend of live instrumentation and electronic production, creating a perfect fusion that made the audience groove.
"I played at Echoes from Earth last year in Bangalore, and it was a great experience, even though it rained before our set," he recalled. "The crowd was incredible, and the energy was just off the charts," said Roman about his memorable event in India.
