One of the biggest myths related to the usage of sunscreens during monsoons is that their application is unnecessary because the sun is hidden by dense clouds during the rains.

With increasing focus on skincare across age groups, the importance of using sunscreen has spiked manifold, and rightly so. However, misconceptions regarding the correct usage of sun protection factor are also on the rise. Do we not need to apply sunscreen during the monsoon season, or should it remain a vital part of our daily skincare routine, regardless of the weather?
Well, the truth is that our skin needs protection from the sun’s harmful rays even during the monsoon. Here’s why:
- One of the biggest myths related to the usage of sunscreens during monsoons is that their application is unnecessary because the sun is hidden by dense clouds during the rains. However, ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun passes through clouds and harms the skin regardless of the weather.
- Collagen and elastin, two proteins produced by the body, are destroyed by UV radiation. These proteins help maintain the youthful appearance of your skin by preventing wrinkles. Hence, the need to use the correct SPF.
- During the monsoon season, you need a water- and sweat-resistant sunscreen that will keep you safe even if you're caught in a sudden downpour.
- To assist in reducing the effects of these dangerous rays, be sure to apply a water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen. You can select a formula that matches your skin type. However, if it is humid, it is a good idea to select something that is light and won't clog your pores.
- Remember to use sunscreen on all exposed areas, including your face, neck, hands, and ears. UV rays can still reach your skin indirectly via reflections, even if you use an umbrella or wear a raincoat.
- Due to prolonged exposure to UV radiation combined with moisture and pollution, monsoons frequently cause uneven skin tone and pigmentation problems. The skin's surface may become more susceptible to sun damage due to the humid air.
- Daily sunscreen use will shield you from UV-induced pigmentation, keeping your skin radiant and even-toned during the rainy season.

•Use a gentle cleanser twice a day to help wash away the dirt and pollutants on your face
•Light exfoliation 1 a week to slough off dead skin cells, allowing for cell turnover
•You can use a non-comedogenic light moisturizer to enhance hydration and avoid the blockage of pores.
•Stay hydrated and drink lots of water to maintain the elasticity of your skin
•Do not soak for a long time in water. It may contain contaminants that irritate the skin
