Shashi Tharoor will host the Tharoor Sabha at MBIFL 2026, giving Kerala youth a chance to discuss social media limits and share their ideas on a global stage.

Thiruvananthapuram: Floccinaucinihilipilification… perspicacity… the only face that comes to mind when Malayalis hear the use of unusual English words: Shashi Tharoor. The renowned author, diplomat, and parliamentarian once wrote back to a foreigner who tweeted that 'idli' tastes like “steamed regret,” saying that the poor fellow had never eaten a good 'idli'.
Do you want to travel with Shashi Tharoor for a while, to experience something as simple as eating an 'idli', yet so beautiful? Do you want to share the stage with the multi-faceted talent and political diplomat Shashi Tharoor and enjoy the “idli of ideas”? Then welcome to the ‘Tharoor Sabha’ at the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters 2026.
Renowned Shashi Tharoor will host the Tharoor Sabha at the upcoming Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters 2026 (MBIFL), offering young voices from across Kerala a unique platform to engage in discussion on contemporary issues. The session, part of Asia’s largest literary festival, will be held at Kanakakunnu Palace from January 29 to February 1, 2026. The initial discussion topic, “Should social media have limits?”, will explore the balance between freedom and responsibility in the digital age.
Participants aged 18 to 30 are invited to submit a video of less than one minute expressing their opinions on the theme via WhatsApp to 98460 29612 before January 20, 2026. From these submissions, 14 participants—one from each district of Kerala—will be selected for the Tharoor Sabha and will engage directly with Shashi Tharoor.
