Saha Institute Kolkata invites online applications for PhD admissions in Physics, Life Sciences, and Chemistry

Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata; an Autonomous institute under the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India and a Constituent Institution of Hon Bhabha National Institute, a Deemed to be University, has invited applications for admission to its Ph.D. Programmes in Physics (Theoretical or Experimental Physics), Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences starting August 2025.
The areas where openings may be available are given at https://www.saha.ac.in/ (Program admission link). Session will start on August 1, 2025.
Eligibility: (i) Physics - MSc in Physics or BSc with 4 Yrs (8-Semester) in Physics (ii) Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences- MSc in Physics / Chemistry (with Biology at 10+2 level) or MSc in Life Sciences (with Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or BSc with 4 Yrs (8-Semester) in Physics / Chemistry / Biology or M. Tech in Biotechnology (with PCMB at 10+2 level)
Those who have appeared for their final examination of M.Sc. or B.Sc. (4 yrs.) degree in 2025 and are yet to receive their final degree may also apply. Such admissions will be provisional till they submit their final mark sheet/certificate in compliance with the cut-off requirements of SINP for the year 2025 (to be announced).
Selection procedure: Shortlisting will be made based on previous academic records and performances in the following nation-wide screening tests: (i) For Physics (Experimental and Theoretical): CSIR/UGC NET (June 2023 onwards), GATE (2023 – 2025) in Physics (ii) For Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences: JGEEBILS (Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences) conducted by NCBS-TIFR, CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR NET, GATE.
SINP will not carry out an additional written test during selection.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews to be held Online / In-person. The list of shortlisted candidates will be published at the admission page and also informed by email also. Final selection of candidates will be based on their past records and interviews. Selected candidates will be informed by email and also through announcement in the related web page.

Applicants will be required to provide hall ticket number/rank/percentile marks of national level qualification tests JGEEBILS/NET/GATE etc.
Fellowships and benefits: The selected students will be admitted as Junior Research Fellow (JRF) of SINP.
Fellowship will be Rs. 37,000/- p.m. for JRF and Rs. 42,000/- p.m. for SRF. Contingency, HRA, Medical benefits, etc. are as per extant rules.
Tenure: 4 years, extendable to the 5th year. Yearly renewals and 5th year extensions are subject to satisfactory performance.
Limited hostel accommodations are available.
