London: YouTube has confirmed that it has resolved a global outage that disrupted video streaming services for thousands of users across multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Australia.

The Alphabet-owned platform acknowledged the issue on Thursday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), assuring users that video playback has now been restored across its main platform, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV. However, the company did not disclose the exact cause of the disruption.

YouTube’s support team addressed specific mobile-related issues in a blog post, stating, “The issue is fixed! If you're using an iOS device, please reinstall the app. Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.” Earlier, the platform had acknowledged that users on both iOS and Android were experiencing app crashes and unresponsive behaviour.

According to outage-tracking service Downdetector, user reports of issues peaked at around 7:55 p.m. ET (5:25 a.m. IST), with more than 366,000 complaints in the U.S. alone. Similar spikes in outage reports were observed in other regions, including the UK. However, it is important to note that Downdetector's figures are based on self-reported issues and may not reflect the total number of affected users.

The outage led to widespread frustration online, with many users turning to X to express their concerns, and share humorous memes about the platform's unavailability. One user commented, “Everyone is rushing to Twitter to check if YouTube is down for everyone else,” accompanied by a meme that captured the collective confusion. Others lamented the timing of the crash, with one post reading, "Why does it have to be YouTube of all apps to crash right now?" and another saying, "Lowkey I forgot how much I take YouTube for granted. I’m genuinely about to crash out."

Reflecting on the incident, one user noted: “YouTube’s server crashes and proves that no system is bulletproof to everything and everyone.”

The brief outage served as a stark reminder of the platform’s global reach and how deeply embedded it is in users’ daily routines.
