Lara Croft sets new Guinness World Records as Tomb Raider’s iconic videogame heroine.

Lara Croft, the legendary Tomb Raider star, has added two new Guinness World Records to her long list of achievements, cementing her status as gaming’s ultimate heroine. The iconic adventurer is now officially recognised as the best-selling videogame heroine and most magazine covers for a videogame character.
Nearly three decades of gaming dominance
Since her debut in 1996, Lara Croft has redefined what a gaming hero could be. The Tomb Raider series has expanded to include 11 main entries, plus spin-offs and mobile games, selling over 100 million units worldwide. This staggering success keeps Lara far ahead of her rivals in the gaming world.
The queen of magazine covers
Lara’s global recognition extends beyond gaming. Publications across gaming, film, lifestyle, and comics have repeatedly featured her on their covers. By April this year, Lara had appeared on 2,300 magazine covers, including prestigious titles such as Newsweek and TIME. She now also graces the cover of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2026.
Inspiring generations of adventurers
Tomb Raider’s influence has extended into other games, notably inspiring Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series. Scot Amos, Head of Studio at Lara’s developers Crystal Dynamics, said, “She’s been aspirational and inspirational for nearly three decades, and it’s an honour to have her legacy recognised by Guinness World Records.”
Amos added that Lara’s achievements highlight her enduring cultural impact and the dedication of her global fanbase. “We’re thrilled to be building a bright future for Lara Croft driven by her spirit of curiosity, courage, and adventure.”
