Apple’s latest iOS 26.1 update introduces the new Liquid Glass setting, improves security and adds smarter features across AirPods, Apple Music and Fitness.

Apple has begun rolling out the latest iOS 26.1 update for iPhone users, introducing a host of new features, performance enhancements and essential security patches. The update, released on November 3, also resolves multiple issues reported in iOS 26.0.1 and includes a brand-new Liquid Glass display option designed to improve legibility and screen clarity.
Liquid Glass setting enhances screen visibility
The highlight of iOS 26.1 is the new Liquid Glass feature, which lets users toggle between a default “clear look” and a “tinted look.” This aims to improve the readability of interface elements and notifications, especially on the Lock Screen. Apple added the option after users reported opacity-related issues in earlier versions. In addition, users can now choose to disable the swipe gesture that opens the Camera app from the Lock Screen.
More languages for live translation with airpods
Apple has also expanded Live Translation with AirPods, which now supports Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean and Italian — taking the total supported languages to nine. The feature already includes English (UK and US), French, German, Portuguese and Spanish.
Enhanced child safety features
With iOS 26.1, Apple strengthens online safety for younger users. Communication Safety and web content filters are now automatically enabled for existing child accounts, restricting access to adult content for users aged 13–17.
Apple music gets smarter and smoother
Apple Music gains new intuitive controls — a mini-player gesture lets users swipe left to skip forward or right to return to a previous track. Apple Music AutoMix now supports AirPlay, allowing seamless transitions between songs across compatible devices.
Security and system improvements
Apple’s support page confirms that iOS 26.1 patches several security vulnerabilities affecting the kernel, Safari, WebKit and system apps such as Camera, Photos and Find My users are strongly advised to update to the latest version for improved protection.
Other enhancements
The update introduces Gain Control for external USB microphones during local audio recordings, giving users control over input levels and allowing custom file storage locations. The Fitness app now supports manual workout logging, while FaceTime audio quality has been improved for low-bandwidth connections.
Apple also fixed several known bugs, including an AirDrop icon glitch in the share sheet, an issue with the HealthKit blood pressure switch, and a Processor Trace Instrument bug affecting iPhone 17 series devices.
