Samsung has officially confirmed that the stable rollout of its latest software update, One UI 8 based on Android 16, will commence in September 2025. The update will initially be available to users of the Galaxy S25 series before expanding to other eligible devices across Samsung’s Galaxy portfolio.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 became the first Samsung devices to launch with One UI 8 and Android 16 out of the box in July 2025. Since then, Samsung has been actively running a beta testing program for various devices, including the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and some Galaxy A series models.

Despite indications of a sixth beta release for the S25 series, Samsung has reiterated that the stable public release remains on schedule and will start within weeks. Following the S25 series launch, the update will be extended to the Galaxy S24 series, newer foldable models, and select Galaxy A devices, with most eligible devices expected to receive the update before the end of 2025.

Key Features and Improvements of One UI 8:

AI-Enhanced User Experience: One UI 8 is designed to deliver personalised, AI-driven interfaces optimised for foldables and traditional smartphones. Features like Gemini Live on Galaxy Z Flip7’s FlexWindow enable natural conversational AI interactions even when the device is folded.

Improved Multitasking: Galaxy Z Fold7 benefits from enhanced multitasking capabilities such as flexible split-screen and floating windows, enabling users to interact with AI assistance while working across multiple applications.

Visual and Functional Upgrades: Users will experience dynamic wallpapers, immersive animations, an enhanced Quick Share feature for faster content sharing, and support for group audio sessions.

Robust Security: The update introduces Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) and Knox Vault, providing advanced protection for personalised AI features and safeguarding user data.

Samsung DeX Integration: Developed alongside Google, Samsung DeX has been refined for One UI 8 to offer a consistent desktop experience on Android devices, boosting productivity.

Samsung is also working closely with Google to co-develop and optimise One UI 8, signifying a deeper collaboration that enables faster and more efficient deployment of updates. This timely rollout comes after delays with the previous One UI 7 update.
