Samsung Electronics is set to unveil its new tri-fold smartphone at the APEC summit in Gyeongju later this month. The device features a triple-fold design, with a 6.5-inch outer display that expands to 10 inches when fully opened, combining smartphone portability with tablet-sized functionality.

Analysts say the launch focuses more on brand positioning than mass sales.

Samsung’s tri-fold design supports multitasking and AI-powered services, using in-house technologies for hinges, displays, ultra-thin glass, and batteries. The company has also integrated Google Gemini for image editing and personal assistant features.

This move is part of Samsung’s strategy to strengthen its foldable smartphone lineup, which already includes the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, recording over 1 million pre-orders in Korea and strong sales in Europe.

The tri-fold model, certified in August 2025, will have limited production, targeting high-income markets, with prices expected to exceed 3 million won (around Rs 1,89,389).

Although Huawei Corp. was the first to introduce a dual-fold phone, Samsung is seen as having stronger capabilities in product completeness, mass production, and global market reach.

The release comes as global smartphone sales remain sluggish. The report analyses the tri-fold device as part of Samsung's effort to generate new demand. Its fold-out structure, which offers a tablet-sized display with the portability of a smartphone, is seen as well suited for multitasking and for the use of artificial intelligence-based services.
