New Delhi: Google has unveiled new Gemini-powered AI experiences in Gmail, including the AI Inbox, designed to offer users more personalised and helpful insights. The features have begun rolling out in the US for Gmail users, as well as Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

“We're starting with English and excited to roll out more languages and to more regions in the coming months,” said Blake Barnes, VP of Product, Gmail, in a company blog post.

The AI Inbox functions like a personal briefing, highlighting important tasks and summarising key messages. “It helps you prioritise, identifying your VIPs based on signals like people you email frequently, those in your contacts list and relationships it can infer from message content. Crucially, this analysis happens securely with the privacy protections you expect from Google, keeping your data under your control,” Barnes added.

Trusted testers currently have access to AI Inbox, with a broader rollout planned in the coming months.

In addition, Gmail now offers AI Overviews, which summarise long email threads into concise summaries. “When you open an email with dozens of replies, Gmail synthesises the conversation into a clear summary of key points. You can also ask your inbox a question, and Gemini generates an AI Overview with the answer,” Google said. AI Overview conversation summaries are being rolled out to all users at no cost.

Other new AI features include ‘Help Me Write’ for drafting or polishing emails, and updated Suggested Replies that offer one-click responses tailored to the context and your writing style. Both are available to all users for free. The Proofread feature is exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

Next month, Help Me Write will gain enhanced personalisation by incorporating context from other Google apps, further streamlining the email experience.

Gmail, used by over 3 billion people worldwide, has long integrated AI features, from Smart Replies to AI-driven spam filtering, and these new Gemini-powered tools mark the latest step in Google’s efforts to make email smarter, faster, and more personalised.
