Epic Games confirms Fortnite login services are recovering after widespread outages disrupted players worldwide

Players trying to jump into Fortnite are running into trouble, with a surge of reports suggesting the game is currently inaccessible for many users worldwide. Complaints have flooded social platforms and outage trackers, with players saying they are unable to move past the login screen despite multiple attempts. The disruption has landed at an awkward moment, coinciding with the Christmas Eve holiday period when Fortnite usually sees a sharp rise in activity.
Epic Games has since acknowledged the issue and shared an updated status message, noting that Epic Online Services logins are in the process of recovering and that access should gradually return for affected players. The company added that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates if required. This reassurance came almost two hours after Epic had earlier suggested the problem was resolved, only for login failures to resurface soon after.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), EOS Status said, “Epic Online Services log-ins are recovering and players should be able to play again. We're continuing to monitor and we'll update you with any new info about this issue.”
Reports indicate that the outage is not limited to one region or device. Fortnite players across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms appear to be affected. Instead of loading into Winterfest activities or seasonal game modes, users are encountering authentication errors that prevent the game from launching.
Epic Games has clarified that the disruption is linked to login and authentication systems rather than the game servers themselves. As a result, even though Fortnite may technically be online, players are unable to sign in. Because the fault sits on Epic’s side, common troubleshooting steps such as restarting devices, reinstalling the game or clearing cache have offered little relief.
Earlier, the official Fortnite Status account also confirmed that login services are now stabilising. In the post, the company said, “Fortnite log-ins are recovering and players should be able to play again. We're continuing to monitor and we'll update you with any new info about this issue,” while adding that the situation continues to be monitored closely and that further updates will be shared if there are any new developments.
The timing has only added to player frustration. With many people off work or school for the holidays, the outage has disrupted planned gaming sessions and limited-time in-game events, leaving players waiting for a full service restoration.
