Thiruvananthapuram: Young Indians Thiruvananthapuram chapter is set to host The Kovalam Marathon on September 24, dedicated to championing ocean preservation and a healthy lifestyle. In an era marked by climate change and pollution, the world's largest habitat, the ocean, is facing unprecedented challenges. The marathon is being organised with the intention of creating awareness about marine conservation while promoting the significance of physical well-being amidst today's fast-paced world.
“Kovalam Marathon, commencing from Kovalam Grove Beach, adheres to international standards, distinguishing it as a rare event in Kerala,” said Anind Ben Roy, Chairman of Young Indians Thiruvananthapuram Chapter.
The event features multiple race categories, including a full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10K run (10 km), fun run (five km), and corporate relay (five km). Notably, the Kovalam Marathon holds the distinction of being the first internationally standardised full marathon hosted in the capital city.
Only those who have pre-registered can participate in the marathon. Participants will receive hydration support, including water, electrolytes, and snacks, as well as a T-shirt and medal for completing the event. The full, half, and 10K categories are open to both women and men aged 18 and above and the 5 km category welcomes children above 10 years old. RFID technology chips integrated into bibs will be given to participants to precisely track finishing times for the full, half, and 10K marathons.
