In remembrance of the valiant soldiers of the 1999 Kargil War, over 3,000 participants from all over India participated in the Sarhad Shauryathon 2026 at the Drass War Memorial in Ladakh.

Organised by the Indian Army, Sarhad Pune and the local administration, the high-altitude marathon forms part of the build-up to Kargil Vijay Diwas. Participants, including civilians, students, athletes and Army personnel, competed in races ranging from three kilometres to the half marathon. Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa said the event, now in its third year, is dedicated to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice while also promoting tourism in the Drass region.

Visitors from across the country described the memorial as a place of deep respect and remembrance. One participant whose husband served with the 13 JAK RIF during the Kargil War said the visit carried profound personal significance. Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India's victory in the conflict.
