Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cricket League (KCL) has come under scrutiny as police initiate an investigation into allegations of bribery aimed at players to manipulate match outcomes. Messages sent via WhatsApp and Instagram to two players have prompted authorities to expand their inquiry beyond Kerala.

Reports indicate that a player received a bribe offer via mobile phone from Chhattisgarh, proposing Rs 1 lakh for each ball bowled that resulted in a wide or no-ball. Additionally, another player was offered Rs 5 lakh if he bowled according to specific instructions during an over.

Following these revelations, the team management informed BCCI officials about the situation. The police case was filed based on a complaint submitted by the BCCI, with charges relating to unlawful gaming and fraud being investigated by the Cantonment and Fort police stations.

To pinpoint the source of the messages, police have also reached out to nodal officers of Instagram and WhatsApp.
