The Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy has taken a dramatic turn after Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi carried the silverware back to his hotel room following the final in Dubai.

Naqvi had stepped onto the presentation stage after India’s five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the title clash, but Team India made it clear they would not receive the trophy directly from him. The Indian players insisted on accepting the award only from a neutral official.

As a result, Naqvi walked out of the stadium with both the trophy and the winners’ medals. Two days later, there is still no clarity on how and when the Indian team—already back home—will be officially handed their prizes.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Naqvi has informed organisers that Suryakumar Yadav and his men will get the trophy and medals only if a formal ceremony is arranged, allowing him to personally present the awards.

Given the strained political ties between India and Pakistan, such an event appears highly unlikely. Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia condemned Naqvi’s actions, calling them “unsporting” and confirming that the matter will be escalated to the ICC.

“We have decided not to take the trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan,” Saikia told ANI.

“That does not mean the gentleman can take away the trophy along with the medals. We hope they are returned at the earliest.”

The BCCI has also stated that it will launch a strong protest against Naqvi’s conduct during the upcoming ICC conference in Dubai this November.
