At MBIFL, the most significant topic of the times, 'Can Indians live in Bharat?' was put to argumentation. Spokespersons from the four prominent political parties in Kerala engaged and delved into the topic. Journalist Abhilash Mohan acted as the moderator of the session.
Rahul Mamkootathil of the Congress party, Sandeep Varier of the BJP, T.K Sanoj from the Communist party, and K M Shaji, the Indian Union Muslim League leader were the panelists.
Sandeep Varier disagreed with the title of the session, 'Can Indians live in Bharat?', stating that it creates confusion and conflict amongst the people with the ideology that India and Bharat are different entities. He said, "The Indian constitution states that 'India, that is Bharat ...' which says that India and Bharat are one entity. I think that these terms are used to influence people's minds with underlying selfish political ideologies. Hence I disagree with the topic itself."
Rahul Mamkootathil voiced, "The context and who says what is important. When Hitler and Gandhi say, 'Come, let's unite!', both have different meanings in terms of context. Hitler, the autocrat says that with authority and Gandhi calls for teamwork." He cited the examples of Gowri Lankesh and Arnab Goswami in the field of media to reinstate his point.
KM Shaji said that there is a religious hate campaign in the country and that Bharat is not the India where all Indians can live peacefully. "It is a kind of a racial nervous disorder that is the root of the propaganda which is dangerous for people of non-Hindu religion. The concept of Bharat is too weak to include people of all sects in equal space.
"Whatever the new name is, or the ideology is, India is India and we will all live here without fear, " he said.
T.K Sanoj said "India and Bharat are two concepts. He pointed at the alarming overgrowth of corporates like Adani and Ambani in India and the marginalization of the Indian giants, BSNL, LIC, and HLL. "Unemployment is a rising crisis in India and the government is in a static state in not solving the situation".
Varier opposed the views and stated, "The name India is the result of Colonialisation. For constitutional and legal reasons, the name India remained, though the British left the country. The name Bharat holds the rich culture and heritage of the country." He replied to Mamkoottathil that the slogan, 'India is Indira and Indira is India' is similar to the Nazi slogan at the time of Hitler, "Germany is Hitler and Hitler is Germany."
"Autocracy and overruling of the Constitution were initiated by Indira Gandhi by imposing Emergency in the country and hence Indira Gandhi of the Congress party is the autocrat and not Modi," he added.
The heated and factual discussion threw light upon the disagreement and dissatisfaction of the other political parties in BJP rule and their decisions. Spokespersons of all the political parties in Opposition strongly voiced that they would oppose the autocratic decisions of the BJP government by all means. The BJP spokesperson affirmed that they are unapologetic for all the unwanted confusion being created by the other parties for creating internal conflict in the country.
