Amidst US-Iran tensions, World War III memes are trending on social media.

New Delhi: The internet has once again responded to global tension with what it does best- memes. Within hours of the United States carrying out precision strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, social media turned into a meme fest, with "World War III" trending across platforms like X.
The humour, though often laced with anxiety, reflects the public’s coping mechanism amid fears of escalating conflict. Memes and jokes imagining everything from reluctant military recruits to anime-style war reels have flooded timelines worldwide, especially after US President Donald Trump confirmed the strike on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites.
"In times of uncertainty, humour becomes a lifeline," one post read, as countless users joined in to satirise the rapidly shifting geopolitical situation.
A viral meme read: “My first world war. Kinda nervous,” perfectly capturing the collective unease of an online generation that's more familiar with battlegrounds in video games than in real life.
Another meme jokingly claimed Trump has “FOMO” (Fear of Missing Out) when it comes to global conflict, prompting a Hindi reply: “Bua jaisa beech mein aajata”, comparing the former US president to a meddling relative who inserts themselves into every situation.
One meme showed a cartoonish Trump calling Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and asking, “What do you want for peace?” Khamenei replies, “$2 billion.” Trump, pointing to the sky, says, “Look outside,” a cheeky reference to the US deploying B-2 Spirit stealth bombers—each costing nearly that much, for the Iran operation.
Not to be outdone, one user created a 30-second anime-style reel dramatizing the attack, complete with power-up scenes, explosions, and heroic background music.
While tensions in the Middle East remain high and the spectre of broader conflict looms, the internet continues to deal with dread the only way it knows how—by turning fear into viral content.
