Doha: The Qatari Ministry of Interior on Saturday issued an urgent directive for all citizens, residents, and visitors to "remain indoors" as the nation’s air defence systems engaged multiple waves of Iranian ballistic missiles.

The stay-at-home order followed a series of powerful explosions over the capital as Qatari Patriot missile batteries intercepted incoming threats. While the government has since reported no casualties or major material damage in residential areas, the ministry emphasised that the restriction remains in place until the security environment "stabilises."

"In light of the current developments and the Iranian targeting of the State’s territory, the Ministry of Interior urges citizens, residents and visitors to remain indoors, stay away from windows and open areas, and avoid leaving their homes except in cases of absolute necessity until the situation stabilises," the government stated.

National Sovereignty Violated

Doha has officially condemned the strikes as a "flagrant violation" of its national sovereignty. Despite Qatar's long-standing role as a mediator between Washington and Tehran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the targeting of its territory by a neighbour "cannot be accepted under any justification or pretext."

The escalation has resulted in:

  • Airspace Closure: Hamad International Airport has suspended all commercial traffic, with dozens of flights diverted to Saudi Arabia and Oman.
  • Military Alert: U.S. personnel at Al Udeid Air Base, the forward headquarters of U.S. Central Command, were ordered to "shelter in place" for six hours during the height of the barrage.
  • Public Safety: Authorities have warned the public not to approach or touch any unidentified metallic debris found in the streets, urging residents to report such items to emergency services at 999.

Regional Volatility

The strikes on Qatar are part of a broader Iranian retaliatory campaign following "Operation Epic Fury," a joint U.S.-Israeli offensive that began at dawn Saturday. Iran has targeted several Gulf states that host American military installations, including the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

While the U.S. Embassy in Doha has since lifted its specific shelter-in-place order for diplomatic staff, the Qatari Ministry of Interior continues to advise "extreme caution." Security teams are currently conducting field assessments across the country to ensure no unexploded ordnance remains in populated districts.
