US President Donald Trump has warned of a major response against Iran after Tehran claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile attack targeting US military facilities in Jordan, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

"We are going to beat the f**king sh*t out of them," Trump said.
He added that the US would strike back strongly. "We'll be hitting them hard. They're going to get a beating."
Trump said US forces intercepted the incoming missiles and claimed American troops had only a short time to respond to the attack.
Iran's IRGC claims responsibility for strike
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out the missile attack against a US military base and Central Command facility in Jordan.
In a statement reported by Iranian state media, the IRGC Aerospace Force said it had launched "several ballistic missiles" in response to what it described as US aggression against Iranian interests.
The IRGC said: "As long as threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran continue and illegal and evil actions by American forces against our interests continue, the resistance will continue."
Iran said the operation was aimed at responding to US actions in the region, while Washington has accused Tehran and its allied groups of repeatedly targeting American personnel and facilities.
US says missile attack was intercepted
Trump said US forces successfully intercepted the missiles before they reached their intended targets.
According to his remarks, American personnel monitored the attack in real time and coordinated defensive action to prevent damage to US positions.
The details of the interception and any casualties or damage from the attack have not been independently confirmed.
US and Saudi strikes on Iran-backed groups in Iraq
The latest escalation follows US-Saudi strikes against Iran-aligned militant groups in Iraq.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American and Saudi aircraft carried out precision strikes against locations linked to weapons and logistics operations of groups it described as Iran-backed militants.
CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out after a series of drone attacks targeting US forces and Saudi infrastructure.
The command said: "US and Saudi fighter aircraft struck multiple terrorist logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq."
CENTCOM also claimed that Iran-aligned groups had attempted hundreds of attacks against US citizens and facilities in Iraq between February and April 2026.
Rising tensions between Washington and Tehran
The latest exchange adds to growing tensions between the United States and Iran, with both sides accusing each other of threatening regional security.
Washington has warned Iran and its allied groups against further attacks on US forces, while Tehran has repeatedly criticised American military presence and actions in the region.
The situation has increased concerns over a wider regional confrontation involving the US, Iran and allied groups across the Middle East.
