The United States launched fresh military strikes on Iran early on Thursday, saying the action was in response to an attack on American forces in the Middle East.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes began at 8pm Eastern Time on Wednesday (00:00 GMT). In a post on X, it said the operation was a "powerful response to attempted attacks" on US forces in the region the previous day.

Trump warns of strong response

Hours before, US President Donald Trump said the United States would hit Iran "very hard" after an attack on American forces in Jordan.

Trump said Iranian missiles fired during the attack were intercepted, but added that the US would respond anyway. "It's our turn," he said.
