In his initial response to India's ‘Operation Sindoor' strikes against alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, US President Donald Trump hoped for a rapid de-escalation of the conflict. The US President's statement came shortly after the Indian Ministry of Defence confirmed the targeted strikes on nine sites within Pakistani territory, conducted in retaliation for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
During a press conference on Tuesday, President Trump was questioned about his reaction to the escalating situation. "It's a shame. We just heard about it as we were walking in the doors of the oval. Just heard about it. I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past. They've been fighting for a long time. They've been fighting for many, many decades. And centuries, actually, if you think about it. I hope it ends very quickly," the US president stated.
US Speaker Johnson Pledges Support
Earlier in the day, US Speaker Mike Johnson had conveyed Washington's commitment to providing India with the necessary support in its fight against terrorism. "India has to stand against terrorism. We will do everything possible to support those efforts. Trump administration will help India with energy and resources to fight terrorism," Johnson said.
The speaker further emphasized the importance of the US-India relationship in addressing the threat of terrorism. "We will do everything we can in the US to support those efforts, and I think that's all part of this relationship as it develops. The Trump administration clearly understands the importance of that relationship and clearly understands the importance of the threat of terrorism," he added.
India's 'Operation Sindoor' Details
The Indian government, through a press release on the Press Information Bureau (PIB), confirmed the execution of 'Operation Sindoor', targeting terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan. The Indian Army also took to social media platform X, declaring, "Justice is served. Jai Hind!"
According to the PIB statement, nine sites were targeted in the operation, which was described as measured and non-escalatory in nature. “No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution,” the statement read.
