Bahrain: Kuwait and Bahrain were placed on high alert early Saturday after Kuwait's military said its air defence systems were intercepting "hostile" missile and drone attacks, while Bahrain issued an air raid warning and urged residents to seek shelter amid escalating tensions across the Gulf.

"Kuwaiti air defenses are currently responding to hostile missile and drone attacks," the military said on X, without specifying their origin.

"The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces confirms that any explosions that may be heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile attacks," the Kuwait Army added.

An air raid alert was also issued in Bahrain, with the Gulf country's interior ministry saying on X, "The siren has been sounded ..Citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place."

The alerts came hours after the US military said it had shot down four Iranian drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz and carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites, raising concerns over the stability of a fragile ceasefire and the risk of a broader regional escalation.

"The attack drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic," US Central Command said on social media.

The military said it later struck radar sites along Iran's coast, including on an island in the Strait of Hormuz, "to defend against further attacks."

The United States has been enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports in response to what it describes as Tehran's chokehold on the critical shipping corridor for global oil and natural gas supplies. The tensions have contributed to a spike in energy prices and created political challenges for US President Donald Trump's Republican Party ahead of the midterm congressional elections.
