At least 110 Indian students have crossed into Armenia from Iran as part of ongoing evacuation efforts amid intensifying hostilities between Iran and Israel, Indian government sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The development marks the movement of Indian civilians out of Iran since Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Tehran and other cities last week, triggering a surge in regional tensions and widespread disruption of air travel.
In a public advisory, the Indian Embassy in Tehran urged all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) currently in the Iranian capital to contact the mission immediately and share their location and contact details.
“All Indian Nationals who are in Tehran and not in touch with the Embassy are requested to contact the Embassy of India in Tehran immediately and provide their Location and Contact numbers,” the Embassy said in a post on X, listing three emergency contact numbers.
The mission also advised those with the means to safely leave the city to relocate to secure areas outside Tehran.
Ministry of External Affairs says, "Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy. Other residents who are self-sufficient in terms of transport have also been advised to move out of the city in view of the developing situation. Separately, some Indians have been facilitated to leave Iran through the border with Armenia. The Embassy remains continuously in touch with the community with a view to extending all feasible assistance.”
With Iranian airspace largely closed and major airports either shut or damaged, Indian nationals have been evacuated through neighbouring countries including Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan, in addition to Armenia.
