Iran targets Israel’s Haifa refinery in retaliation for attacks on its energy assets, signalling a dangerous escalation in the Iran–Israel conflict.

An Iranian missile strike has targeted an oil refinery in Haifa, marking a sharp escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Israeli authorities confirmed the attack hit a major energy facility but said the impact was limited, with only brief and localised power disruptions reported in northern areas.
Israel’s energy minister stated that the electricity supply was quickly restored and critical infrastructure remained largely unaffected. The refinery, operated by Oil Refineries Ltd, did not suffer significant operational damage despite being directly targeted.
The strike is part of a broader wave of Iranian missile and drone attacks across the region. Tehran says the escalation is retaliation for recent Israeli strikes on its key energy assets, including the strategic South Pars gasfield—one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, warned that Tehran would show “zero restraint” if further attacks on its infrastructure continue.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for firing missiles toward both Haifa and the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, though it remains unclear if the latter sustained damage.
The violence has also spread to Israel’s northern borders. In Kiryat Shmona, near Lebanon, at least four people were injured in a rocket attack, with one victim reported in serious condition.
At the same time, Israel has intensified military operations in Lebanon, targeting positions linked to Hezbollah. The group has responded with repeated rocket fire into northern Israel, further widening the conflict.
With both sides now targeting critical energy infrastructure and expanding strikes across multiple fronts, the confrontation is increasingly taking on the shape of a broader regional war.
