Washington: Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has called for an emergency Security Council meeting to address the country's concerns over recent US military strikes on its nuclear facilities. In a letter to the UN, Iravani condemned the attacks as "heinous" and "illegal," demanding that the US be held accountable under international law and the UN charter.

The US military struck three key nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, using B-2 stealth bombers and bunker-buster bombs. According to Iravani, these attacks were "unprovoked and premeditated acts of aggression" that followed Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 13. Iran's government has strongly condemned the attacks, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warning of "everlasting" consequences and stating that Iran reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and interests.

AP reports that Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani in his letter said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns and denounces in the strongest possible terms these unprovoked and premeditated acts of aggression, which have followed the large-scale military attack conducted by the Israeli regime on 13 June against Iran's peaceful nuclear sites and facilities."

The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has expressed concern over the escalation, emphasizing the need for diplomacy to avoid further conflict. He called them a "dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge." "At this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos," Guterres said in a statement. "There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace.”
