Ottawa: An Indian-Canadian gangster, Opinder Singh Sian, has been arrested in the United States for his alleged involvement in a transnational drug operation alongside the infamous Irish Kinahan gang, local media reported.

According to Global News, Sian was involved in smuggling methamphetamine and fentanyl precursors at an international level. US court documents reveal that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) arrested Sian last month in Nevada.

The court filings further indicate that Sian, with support from Turkish and American criminal organisations, was part of a conspiracy to import "precursor chemicals from China and export narcotics through the port of Los Angeles to Australia."

Sian, 37, who has links to the Brothers Keepers, a Canadian organised crime group based in Surrey, British Columbia, was arrested in Arizona. A Nevada judge has ordered him held in custody pending his transfer to California, as reported by the Vancouver Sun. Sian had previously survived two shootings in Surrey in 2008 and 2011.

Scott McGregor, a former military intelligence operator, commented that "Vancouver is the centre of gravity for hybrid warfare for transnational organised crime in North America." Other suspects in the ongoing case have not yet been charged.
