Precautionary move: India withdraws families of officials from Bangladesh due to evolving security ahead of elections. Diplomatic ops continue. Stay informed!

New Delhi: India on Tuesday decided to withdraw the families of its officials posted in Bangladesh as a precautionary measure, citing concerns over the evolving security situation in the neighbouring country. The move comes weeks ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming parliamentary elections, which have heightened political tensions across the region.
Official sources said dependents of Indian diplomats and staff working at the High Commission in Dhaka and other Indian posts across Bangladesh have been advised to return to India. However, the Indian mission and all diplomatic offices in Bangladesh will continue to function normally.
Given the security situation, as a precautionary measure, we have advised the dependents of our officials in the high commission and posts to return to India, official sources said.
The decision reflects India’s standard security protocol in situations where political uncertainty or unrest could pose risks to nationals.
Bangladesh is preparing for parliamentary elections in the coming weeks, a period that has historically seen heightened political activity, protests, and sporadic unrest.
