The meeting aims to end the Ukraine conflict, aligning with Prime Minister Modi's repeated assertion that "this is not an era of war."

New Delhi: India on Saturday welcomed the announcement of next week’s summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at ending the Ukraine war. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reaffirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent stance that this is not an "era of war" and expressed India’s readiness to support the peace efforts.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “India welcomes the understanding reached between the United States and the Russian Federation for a meeting in Alaska on August 15. This meeting holds the promise of bringing to an end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up the prospects for peace. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on several occasions, ‘This is not an era of war.’ India, therefore, endorses the upcoming Summit meeting and stands ready to support these efforts.”
India has consistently advocated for resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. The announcement of the summit came hours after Trump posted on Truth Social that he would meet Putin next Friday in Alaska.
In a recent phone call, Putin briefed Modi on the latest developments in Ukraine. The MEA said Modi thanked Putin for the detailed assessment and reiterated India’s position for a peaceful resolution.
Last year, Modi visited both Moscow and Kyiv, urging both sides to seek a peaceful solution and emphasising that the conflict cannot be solved on the battlefield. Throughout the conflict, Modi has maintained India’s stance in favour of peace.
