Just hours before the fatal car attack at Germany’s Christmas market, Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, the 50-year-old Saudi doctor behind the incident, took to social media to express his anger over what he described as German authorities' persecution of him. In a series of posts on X, he claimed that German officials were tampering with his mail, stealing personal items, including a USB stick, and targeting him unfairly.
Al-Abdulmohsen, an ex-Muslim and self-identified member of the 'Saudi Military Opposition,' had been vocal about his opposition to Islam and Saudi policies, particularly focusing on helping other ex-Muslims, especially women, escape the country after renouncing the faith. His social media accounts were filled with support for far-right figures and groups, including Germany’s anti-immigration AfD party, Elon Musk, Tommy Robinson, and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

In addition to his political views, his posts included retweets of disturbing content, such as videos showing alleged executions of women for 'immoral behavior' and a post questioning the positive aspects of Islam. Police have not officially identified a motive for the Christmas market attack, but these recent online statements paint a picture of growing disillusionment and hostility.
The hours leading up to the attack saw al-Abdulmohsen increasingly fixated on perceived personal injustices, making his later actions even more chilling. His attack, which left several injured and shattered the holiday season atmosphere in Germany, now appears to be linked to his deep-seated grievances with German authorities and his anti-Islamic, far-right sympathies.
