Washington: Former President Donald Trump is set to hold an outdoor rally in North Carolina on Wednesday. This will be his first open-air campaign event since he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a similar event a month ago.

The rally will take place in the afternoon at an aviation museum in Asheboro. Security for the event is being considerably increased, including the installation of bulletproof glass around Trump’s podium, according to U.S. media sources.

The Secret Service had advised Trump to stop holding outdoor events after a gunman fired at him from a rooftop during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack injured Trump and resulted in one death in the crowd.

Despite this, Trump has continued to hold indoor rallies and has expressed a desire to return to outdoor events. In a speech on July 31 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he told his supporters, "we're not giving up the outdoor rallies."

Trump recently announced on social media that he will keep holding open-air events and that “the Secret Service has agreed to substantially step up their operation. They are very capable of doing so." The Secret Service, however, does not usually comment on specific security details and did not confirm the use of bulletproof glass or other measures.

For the Asheboro rally, Trump will speak from behind a transparent protective barrier similar to the one used in presidential limousines. This is designed to protect against potential attacks.

The rally is timed to coincide with the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which will formally nominate Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for president. Security at the convention is extremely tight.

Trump’s rally in Asheboro will also feature his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance. The museum has set up bleachers for thousands of attendees and has announced that the event will be held outdoors.

North Carolina is one of the key swing states that will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the November 5 election.
