Kathmandu: Nepali police came under sharp criticism on Tuesday after visuals from the ongoing protests showed security personnel using tear gas, guns, and batons to disperse stone-pelting demonstrators. Many users on social media described the crackdown as a “blatant violation of human rights” and demanded accountability for the excessive use of force.
Videos widely shared online showed students running for cover, while in one clip, a young girl was seen taking shelter behind a shop as police fired tear gas shells. The forceful response has fueled outrage even as violence escalated across the country.

The Gen Z-led protests, initially sparked by anger over alleged government corruption, have spread nationwide, with demonstrators targeting the homes of senior political leaders and ministers. According to The Kathmandu Post, protesters set fire to the residence of Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung and hurled stones at the houses of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Biswo Paudel, and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The protesters shouted slogans such as "KP Chor, Desh Chhod" (KP thief, leave the country) and "Take Action Against Corrupt Leaders" in multiple parts of the capital. Some protestors torched the residence of Prime Minister Oli at Balkot in Bhaktapur. Oli is currently at the Prime Minister's residence at Balwatar.
Crowds also attempted to storm the residence of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha but were stopped by security personnel. The home of opposition leader and CPN-MC chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal was also attacked with stones.
