
Yangon: The death toll from recent floods in Myanmar has reached 293, with 89 people still unaccounted for, according to state media reports. The floods have impacted numerous townships across the country, including the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, as reported by the Xinhua news agency citing the state-run daily, The Mirror.
As of Thursday morning, approximately 161,592 flood victims from 47,019 households are taking shelter in 425 relief centres. The floods have also submerged around 766,586 acres of farmland and resulted in the loss of 129,150 animals.

The severe flooding was caused by heavy rains from Typhoon Yagi and a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal. Local authorities, rescue organisations, and community members are collaborating to clean up affected areas, provide healthcare, and distribute food and essential supplies to those impacted by the floods.
