Speculation is running rampant online over “Trump’s death,” fueled by his 24-hour absence from the public eye and chatter about his “declining health.” The frenzy intensified after users on X pointed out “persistent bruising” on his hand.

But what triggered the trend? Was it simply concern over his health—or the timing of recent comments from Vice President JD Vance and even The Simpsons creator Matt Groening?

The phrase gained momentum just days after Vance, in an August 27 interview with USA Today, was asked if he was ready to take over as commander in chief in the event of a “terrible tragedy.” While insisting the 79-year-old Trump was still energetic, Vance admitted that unforeseen events could never be completely ruled out.

"He's the last person making phone calls at night, and he's the first person who wakes up and the first person making phone calls in the morning," Vance told USA Today. He added, "Yes, terrible tragedies happen. But I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people. And if, God forbid, there's a terrible tragedy, I can't think of better on-the-job training than what I've gotten over the last 200 days."

The buzz only grew after The Simpsons creator Matt Groening’s remarks at San Diego Comic-Con in July. As reported by Euronews via Variety, Groening said there was “no end in sight” for the long-running series—though he suggested its eventual finale could be tied to Donald Trump’s death.

Amid the swirl of questions, suppositions, memes, and jokes, another reaction trending online is simply: “Trump is fine.” While some users flagged concerns about his health, many dismissed the “death speculation” as far-fetched. The White House, meanwhile, has not acknowledged any such social media chatter.
