Jhenaidah, Bangladesh: Days after the brutal lynching of Hindu man Dipu Chandra Das sent shockwaves across Bangladesh, another disturbing incident of mob violence against a Hindu has come to light.

A Hindu rickshaw puller, Gobinda Biswas, was allegedly assaulted by a mob in Jhenaidah district of the Khulna Division after people noticed a red sacred thread on his wrist. Watch the viral video online:

According to local authorities, the incident occurred on Friday near the gate of the Jhenaidah district municipality. Eyewitnesses said rumours were spread that Biswas was linked to India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), triggering a mob attack.

Biswas, who earns his livelihood by pulling a rickshaw, was beaten mercilessly and sustained injuries to his throat and chest.

Videos of the incident, now viral on social media, show Biswas pleading with police officers as he was taken into custody. “I am a rickshaw puller, please let me go,” he is heard saying repeatedly. He was later detained at the Jhenaidah Sadar police station, officials confirmed.

One of the videos shows a man from the mob brazenly attempting to snatch Biswas away from police custody in full public view, underlining the apparent breakdown of law and order during the incident.

Another video, reportedly filmed inside the police station, features an unidentified voice alleging that Biswas’s mobile phone contained WhatsApp transactions linked to the Reserve Bank of India and that he had received a phone call from India.

Biswas reportedly told police that the caller, identified as Akash, was personally known to him.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the safety of religious minorities in Bangladesh, particularly in the aftermath of recent attacks targeting Hindus.
