SpiceJet has entered into a lease agreement to add five more Boeing 737 aircraft to its fleet, enhancing capacity ahead of the busy winter travel season. Most of the aircraft are expected to arrive by October 2025, with a few joining slightly earlier. They will remain in service until May 2026, covering both the peak winter period and the beginning of the summer schedule. The aircraft will be operated under damp lease arrangements, meaning they will come with partial crew provided.

“While most of these aircraft will join the fleet in October 2025, a few are scheduled to arrive a couple of weeks earlier,” SpiceJet said in a stock exchange filing.

This latest batch comes on the heels of a similar five-plane addition announced last month, doubling SpiceJet’s planned winter fleet expansion to ten new aircraft. The airline is also in advanced talks to lease more planes ahead of the winter schedule.

Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet, said, “SpiceJet is fully geared to meet the surge in travel demand for the upcoming winter and early summer seasons. With the induction of these additional Boeing 737s, we are ensuring that our passengers have more choices, greater connectivity, and a reliable, on-time travel experience.”

Following the announcement, SpiceJet shares rose about 3% today, August 13, 2025. Around 9:45 a.m. IST, the stock was trading at approximately INR 35.21, a clear market reaction to the expansion news.
