This advanced payment method is expected to be fully implemented across all post offices nationwide by August 2025

Mumbai: In a substantial move towards modernizing financial transactions, post office counters across India are set to begin accepting digital payments from August 1. This new initiative, made possible by the integration of a new application into the Postal Department's IT system, aims to provide greater convenience to citizens and reduce reliance on cash transactions.
The transition to digital payments at post offices faced initial hurdles, primarily due to difficulties in linking post office bank accounts with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system. To overcome these technical obstacles, the Postal Department developed and implemented a new application within its existing IT infrastructure.
Under the new system, payments will be accepted at counters via dynamic QR codes. This advanced payment method is expected to be fully implemented across all post offices nationwide by August 2025. A trial run of this system was successfully conducted in post offices under the Mysuru and Bagalkot Head Offices within the Karnataka circle, paving the way for its broader rollout.
While post offices had previously experimented with static QR codes for transactions, the introduction of dynamic QR codes marks an upgrade, coming after recurring technical difficulties were encountered with the older system. This upgrade is anticipated to streamline the payment process, ensuring a more reliable and efficient digital transaction experience for millions of customers across the country.
