IKEA plans to double its stores and customer touchpoints in India within 12–18 months, expanding in Delhi NCR and South India while boosting local sourcing to 50% by 2030.

New Delhi: Global home furnishings giant IKEA has unveiled plans to double its stores and customer touchpoints in India within the next 12 to 18 months, Jesper Brodin, CEO of Ingka Group (which owns IKEA worldwide), announced on Wednesday.
The expansion will feature both large-format outlets and smaller stores in malls and city centres, forming part of the company’s aggressive growth strategy for the Indian market.
Brodin said IKEA is aiming to increase local sourcing from 30 per cent to 50 per cent by 2030, reinforcing its long-term commitment to India. He also revealed that the firm plans to open 5-6 new touchpoints annually over the next five years, effectively doubling its nationwide retail footprint.
As part of its expansion, IKEA has major plans for Delhi NCR, with large stores set to open in Noida and Gurgaon. Two additional outlets are also on the way in South India, though specific locations have not yet been disclosed.
At present, IKEA operates three large-format stores in Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai and Hyderabad. The company has invested ₹10,500 crore in India so far and has ventured into online retail, offering 24-hour delivery in select locations.
On the sourcing front, IKEA currently works with 45 Indian suppliers, primarily in the textile and toy sectors. The company is known globally for its modern design, affordability and functionality.
The Swedish retailer sees India as its fastest-growing market for the next 20 years, with a strong emphasis on customer experience, product range and omnichannel expansion. Its strategy combines large outlets, compact urban stores and digital platforms to reach a broader consumer base.
Founded in 1943 in Sweden, IKEA has grown into a global leader in home furnishings, operating over 400 stores across multiple countries.
