Gold prices in India extended losses for a third consecutive session on Saturday, June 6, tracking a sharp decline in international bullion markets where gold recorded its biggest single-day fall in more than two months.

The latest decline comes after global gold prices dropped sharply on Friday, wiping out gains made earlier this year. Market sentiment was influenced by strong US jobs data, expectations that the US Federal Reserve could keep interest rates higher, and continuing geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia.

Higher interest rates generally reduce the appeal of gold, which does not offer returns such as interest or dividends.

Spot gold fell about 3.5 per cent in international markets, while silver, platinum and palladium also declined.

Gold rates in India on June 6

In the domestic market, 24-carat gold fell by ₹300 per gram to ₹15,273. The price of 10 grams stood at ₹1,52,730, while 100 grams was priced at ₹15,27,300.

The decline has been significant over the past three sessions. Since June 4, 24-carat gold has dropped by ₹34,900 per 100 grams.

Twenty-two-carat gold fell by ₹275 per gram to ₹14,000. The price of 10 grams was ₹1,40,000, while 100 grams was valued at ₹14,00,000.

Eighteen-carat gold also weakened, falling by ₹225 per gram to ₹11,455. The price of 10 grams stood at ₹1,14,550.

Market data showed that the weakness in domestic prices mirrored developments in global markets, where investors reassessed the outlook for interest rates and safe-haven assets.
