Thiruvananthapuram: A wild bison was found at Mangalapuram in Thiruvananthapuram. The bison was spotted grazing in the homesteads near Techno City in Thalakonam.
The staff of Techno City residing in a hostel in the area and the locals were the first to see the bison around 6:30 p.m. on the other day.
The locals informed the panchayat officials and the police. Having many forested areas, the Techno City campus is a habitat for wild boars and jackals, but this is the first time a bison has been spotted.
After being informed by the police, about 50 Forest guards from Anchal, Kulathupuzha, Palot and Paruthipally ranges and a Rapid Response Team (RRT) team reached the spot.
Efforts have been made to capture the wild bison. A curfew has been issued in the area to capture the animal. The RRT team is trying to catch the bison by shooting it with a tranquilizer dart. During the efforts, the bison kept moving further inland. A search is still on in the area to locate the wild animal.
