Thiruvananthapuram: The police is all set to intensify the COVID resistance activities as the rate of disease transmission is not decreasing. Strict action will be taken against those who do not use masks. Around 2000 cases are charged for not wearing masks. They are trying to spot those who fail to wear masks using the traffic cameras.
Normally, these cameras capture traffic rule violations, not wearing helmet or seat belt and similar practices. Now, it will also capture the pictures of people who do not wear masks. The Kerala Police Cyberdome is trying to make changes in the software in order to implement this.
The major problem with this idea is that only those who travel in vehicles can be spotted using the camera. The vehicle's number can be checked and its owner can be given a notice with a picture of the person not wearing masks. But using camera is not practical in case of pedestrians. The police have to manually inspect them and identify the violators.
Not wearing masks while walking in public places is considered more dangerous than travelling in vehicles without masks. If the pictures of pedestrians not wearing masks are to be collected, the storage system has to to be enhanced.
