Intelligence branch launches probe after off-duty police officer threatens staff and extorts cash from an Adivaram spa.

Thamarassery (Kerala): An off-duty CPO, attached to a hilly police station in the district, allegedly entered a spa in the Adivaram area of Puthuppadi, and located outside his station limits, intimidated the female employees under the guise of an inspection, extorted money of Rs 1500 and fled the scene.
Following the disclosure of the incident, the police intelligence wing initiated an investigation. The officer, dressed in plain clothes, arrived at the spa in Adivaram, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Thamarassery police station, on Friday evening. Claiming he was there to inspect whether any illegal activities were taking place on the premises, he demanded and inspected all operational records before demanding money. As no illegal activities were taking place, the staff stated there was no reason to hand over any money. However, the police officer countered by stating that his superior was strict and would shut down the establishment if they failed to pay.
Subsequently, the employees handed over the entire sum contained in the office desk drawer to the officer.
