Wayanad: In a dramatic scene from a landslide-stricken village in Wayanad district, Kerala, a man covered in mud was spotted desperately holding onto a large rock in fast-flowing floodwaters. The incident unfolded on Tuesday following heavy rains that triggered deadly landslides.

The man, believed to have been swept away by the flood, managed to wedge himself between massive rocks but struggled to stand or swim to safety due to the thick mud and strong currents.

The distressing sight of the man's survival effort amid scattered rocks in the floodwater was captured in Mundakkai village. Reports indicated that hundreds of people were trapped after landslides hit the area early Tuesday morning.

"He is trapped in the area near the local school in Mundakkai. He caught our attention for the first time by 7.30 am.

He is still continuing his attempt not to get carried away by the flood waters and trying to stand in the thick marsh," Raghavan, a block panchayat member who took the visuals on his mobile phone, said.

Residents, unable to reach the man due to dangerous conditions, watched his plight unfold. Television channels broadcasted the footage, urging authorities to dispatch rescue teams urgently.

"My friend Arun is the one who's stuck in the river, covered in mud. No further information has been received since then," Mithun, a resort staff told Mathrubhumi News.

Rescue operations across the affected villages continue, with people seen clinging tightly to each other to avoid being swept away by the floodwaters in various locations. Elderly individuals and women were particularly vulnerable, requiring rescue efforts using temporary metal bridges in areas cut off by massive landslides.
