The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 6.30 pm, just before the commencement of the mega Bharatanatyam event at the Kaloor International Stadium, which aimed to set a Guinness World Record. Uma Thomas sustained severe injuries after falling from a 15-foot-high temporary inaugural stage.
The accident happened when she moved forward after sitting on a chair on the stage, intending to greet someone she knew. While doing so, she lost her balance as she held onto a ribbon attached to a temporary railing at the edge of the stage. She fell, hitting her head on a concrete slab. She was immediately rushed to Palarivattom Renai Medicity Hospital by ambulance.
