Kothamangalam: Two men carrying dried sea cucumbers worth lakhs were caught by the Vigilance Wing of the Forest Department. Lakshadweep natives Abdul Rahman (22) and Nabeel (21) were arrested near Fine Arts Hall in Ernakulam with 14 kilograms of sea cucumbers packed in plastic covers.
The team headed by Range Officer K Anwar of Perumbavoor Flying Squad under the Forest Department nabbed the men while they were trying to sell the sea cucumbers to a Delhi native for 250 US dollars/kg. They had tried to sell the sea cucumbers online and it had come to the notice of the Vigilance Wing.
The accused were handed over to Kodanad Range Officer and taken to the spot for evidence collection on Wednesday. The court remanded both.
