Nileshwar: Two people have been taken into custody for illegally storing firecrackers following the firecracker accident that occurred at Veerarkavu temple in Nileshwar on Tuesday in the wee hours. District Collector K Inbasekar and Police Chief D Shilpa announced that strict action will be taken against anyone who collects or uses firecrackers without proper permission.

Fire force struggled to reach scene

The rescue operation was a major challenge for emergency services. The fire force faced difficulties reaching the scene due to narrow roads and parked vehicles. The Nileshwar Police Station-Theru road was initially closed for national highway work. Although the road was reopened later, traffic was still not flowing smoothly.

Ambulances rushed to the place

Ambulances in the area quickly responded to the emergency, taking injured people to hospitals without delay. The burn victims were transported to hospitals in Kannur and Mangaluru.

Locals, police, fire force, hospital staff worked together

Local residents, police, firefighters, and hospital staff worked together during the rescue operation. Even though the accident occurred late at night, the community came together to ensure that the injured received immediate care.

Hospital staff who had finished their shifts returned to help, while locals assisted with first aid. Police from Nileshwar, Chandera, and Cheemeni were also present at the scene.

DIG assessed the situation at accident spot

Kannur Range DIG Rajpal Meena arrived at the scene around 2:30 am to assess the situation. He held discussions with Collector K. Inbasekar, Police Chief D. Shilpa, and other officials before visiting the injured at the district hospital.
