Vadakkencherry: The Kerala forest department on Sunday nabbed one more accused in connection with the wild elephant carcass case. The accused has been identified as Vinayan (31), a native of Pattimattom.
He was taken into custody by Forest Officer (Machad Range) Sreedevi Madhusoodanan and deputy ranger P Vinod. It is learnt that Vinayan had the plan to destroy the evidence.
Meanwhile, the accused is being quizzed in the presence of forest officer S Jayashankar. Another accused Akhil Mohan is currently at the sub-jail in Muvattupuzha.
Akhil Mohan, who allegedly chopped off the tusk, maintains that the wild jumbo was electrocuted on June 14, as it came in contact with an electric fence that was set to trap wild pigs.
A person running a private resort in Kumily is said to have helped the miscreants in destroying the evidence of the crime. He is said to have assigned the task to a group of men, who travelled to Vazhakode on his instruction.
The carcass of the elephant was found buried on private property near a forest area in Vazhakode last week. The animal's body was found with the tusk missing.
